Laser underarm hair removal is an effective technique that takes the worry out of underarm hair. It guarantees an effective, long-lasting solution to the time-consuming task of shaving and epilating.

Indeed, underarm waxing is a very common practice among women, whether for comfort or to be able to wear the clothes you want, winter or summer. Whether you do it yourself with wax, an electric epilator or have it done in a beauty salon, it's a time-consuming and unpleasant moment. Laser underarm hair removal gives you peace of mind and time, because it's virtually definitive. What's more, this technique means you can say goodbye to ingrown hairs, because there won't be any left.

The principle of laser hair removal

L'laser hair removal is a method of removing hair using light. It involves sending a concentrated beam of light onto the area to be treated. The laser penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair's melanin, the pigment responsible for its color. This energy is then transformed into heat, destroying the hair at its root without damaging the surrounding skin.
Hairs fall out after 5 to 10 days. Those in the anagen phase (the phase during which the hair root is destroyed) will not grow back. The others will grow back when the root enters a new hair cycle.

    Why wax underarms?

Even if certain movements claim the freedom to be hairy, hair under the arms is still often seen as negligence. Hair removal or shaving underarms at home or in an institute is therefore often a daily concern, and even more so in summer.

Moreover, hair tends to retain perspiration odors, so removing it reduces this unpleasantness.

How an underarm laser hair removal session works

    Before the session :

    • No waxing, electric epilators or depilatory creams 6 weeks before the session
    • Shave the armpits the day before to keep them as short as possible.
    • Ideally, you should avoid wearing deodorant on the day of your session. However, if you come to the surgery at the end of the day, after work, we won't ask you to feel uncomfortable all day. So, if you've put deodorant on your armpits, we'll use a wipe to clean it off.

    During the session :

    • An underarm laser hair removal session generally lasts about 15 minutes.
    • You wear protective goggles during the session. The doctor then passes the laser over the area to be treated. You may feel a tingling sensation, but most patients describe it as minimal.

After the session, the hair will fall out in 7 to 10 days. You can apply a repair cream, but this is generally not necessary.

Precautions to take before and after a session

There are several precautions to take before and after a laser hair removal session.

Before treatment, we recommend avoiding any form of hair removal that pulls out the hair at the root (waxing, electric epilator...) for at least 4 weeks. This is because the laser needs the hair root to be effective.

After the treatment, it is advisable to avoid sun exposure on the treated area for at least 4 weeks. Indeed, the skin may be more sensitive after treatment, and therefore more likely to burn. It is also advisable to apply a soothing cream to the treated area to reduce any redness or irritation.

Laser hair removal: a solution for everyone?

Laser underarm hair removal is an increasingly popular technique, suitable for almost everyone. In fact, the effectiveness of the laser depends on the color of the hair. People with dark hair and fair skin are the best candidates for this method of hair removal. On the other hand, people with very light hair may not achieve the desired results. We can also performunderarm laser hair removal on black skin since our l'Aparté center in Bordeaux is equipped with a dual-wavelength alexandrite and YAG. The latter is specific to dark-skinned people.

In general, 6 to 10 sessions are required for optimum results.

How much does an underarm laser hair removal session cost?

The cost is 50 euros per session. However, this price decreases when you choose to laser several areas.
